SSC Developing Dual-Credit OnRamps Stats Course for Texas High School, Community College Students

22 January 2014—SSC Consultants Michael Mahometa and Sally Amen, along with the Division’s co-founder, CNS Assistant Dean Cathy Stacy, are working with the Center for Teaching and Learning to develop a blended-learning introductory statistics course as part of the University’s OnRamps initiative. OnRamps courses are dual-credit offerings for Texas high schools and community college students that deliver course content and assessments online with interactive tools and engaging multimedia. The goal of OnRamps is to better prepare students for university-level coursework, as well as provide an opportunity to earn UT credit hours before ever stepping foot on campus.

The Statistics OnRamps course is based on the Division’s current offering of SSC 302: Foundations of Data Analysis, a highly successful blended introductory statistics class for students in the health sciences. Cathy, Michael, and Sally will be busy this semester creating online content, tools, and assessments for the course, which is slated to start this fall.
